Flat Pedals

Can anybody recomend a good quality flat pedal for my touring bike.
I have always used double sided SPD pedals but this year I have started taking my dog on the bike with me and after a couple of hairy moments decided it might be better to have flat pedals. I bought a pair of Shimano M324 pedals but took them off after the first ride because I seemed to be spending all my time messing around getting the pedals the right way up or with my feet sliding off the pedals.
I was looking at the MKS Sylvan Touring Pedals http://www.evanscycles.com/products/mks/sylvan-touring-pedals-ec012137 they seem to get good reviews but would be open to suggestions if anybody can recomend a better pedal.

Those pedals remind me of the old type, designed to be used with shoe plates and toe clips. Although they have serrated edges, if using flat shoes, may still slip.

The little rivets which stick up create a really good grip with trainers.
Not tried this particular pedal, but put something very similar on an old mountain bike when we had a lot of snow and they were quite good. Usually I ride with clip-ins.

I have those.
The little studs dig into shoes or trainers and are 99.9% slip proof.
Highly recommended.

I hadn't really looked at mountain bike pedals but I guess if they do the job it wont matter so much what they look like.

All of my bikes (road, mountain and touring) are fitted with the MTS MT Lite Pedal which grips really well - seriously well.
It took around 9,000 miles for me to wear out the bearing on them before they needed replacing on my touring bike. Still going strong on my other 2 bikes.
I like them because the grip my hiking shoes and soft hiking boots really well but don't eat into the tread or damage the tread at all.

I use DMR V12s on all my bike, they also have pins on them for grip.

I think it was the cheaper version that I bought. If you read the description, you will notice that they have a grease port and supplied with a grease syringe. This is an extremely messy exercise. The more expensive ones have sealed bearings and don't need to be greased. I regret not buying the more expensive option, but then I used them to update an £80 mtb for use for just a couple of weeks in heavy snow and I haven't used them since!

Thanks for the replies. I will have a look around the bike shops at weekend and see whats on offer. I will have to buy some new shoes too because all my cycling shoes have cleats.
Im starting to think it would have been a lot easier (definitely cheaper) to leave the dog behind when I go riding

I've had the Welgo V8 copies for a good 12-14 years... can't fault them. they've been 100% slip proof in all my footwear... although I'm yet to try stilettos.

If you want cheap @wintergreen ... i reckon they're the best you'll get.

This comes up a bit, I think the story is the Welgo actually make the pedals for DMR for whom they are re-branded? I've got a combo of V8 and V12 DMRs on various bikes. I just take the end cap off and fill it full of grease now and then. It squeezes out the other end where it screws in the crank and I wipe it off. After 7 years I have yet to have to replace bearings. The grip on them is excellent, but the pins do chew up your trainers after a while.

I bought some of these a couple of years ago. I've abused the hell out of them, regularly submerged them in deep puddles, never re-greased them and no pins have fallen out. When they die I'll buy some more
