it's the lack of reporting and speculation that seems different this time.

After the initial news of the event and the inconclusive revelations soon after that about ACARS messages and radar tracks, what has there been to report apart from the sea search for the wreckage and recorders?

We're not talking about another MH370 or AF447 here, even the dimmest journalist will have realised that the answers were going to be found within a relatively short space of time.

If we don't know by this time next week what the likely cause of the accident was, I'll be extremely surprised.

I think the other crashes were ridiculously over reported. There seems nothing odd about the coverage of this one.

I agree, the media have approached this one soberly without the usual hyperboli, that's the surprise.
