Flint Catcher

Are they easy to fit? If so, can I have it please? I have been looking for one of these as I hate mending punctures (it's being a girl you see!) How do I get the cash to you?

Hi Campfire - I don't think anyone actually uses these things as they don't really work that well!

I'm just selling one (not a pair) as a conversation piece really but if you wanted to fit it then you simply take off the top nut of the brakes slide on the FC and then re-tighten the top nut.

This is what they look like - they are only small (3" in length).

Everbody had them when I were a lad. Did work for pulling the small stones off your tyres when the were picked up due to the tarmac melting but as you say not very effective against flints etc.

I'll measure up. I seem to remember the piece that went onto the tyre was a sort of spiraly piece of metal? I'll come back to you tomorrow. I bought some Continental Travel Contact which were guaranteed and if punctured they replaced tyre and tube. The front one collected a drawing pin. Shoudda bought a pair of Schwalbe Marathon + - hence the interest in yours. I do also have a classic Cycles Gitane lightweight ladies tourer, flat bars, which has 23 x 700s and this gismo might just protect on the rear wheel which I cant reach to brush off rubbish.

i've only ever seen them on vintage bikes. afaik the flint catcher died as a result of improvements in tyre technology.

a better investment would be to get kevlar reinforced tyres (most decent brands are, other than specialist racing tyres).
