Flippin Cyclists

Heading around the "elephant & Castle" this am, at a fair old pace. was aiming for the second exit but approaching the first in the centre lane.

Mass of traffic all eager to creep out in front of me and find a place on the roundabout...but all staying put and waiting.

Untill...

A cyclist comes shooting out from between two cars and pulls straight across my path....followed ..in true lemming fashion...by all the cars that thought..."if he can then I can"

Had to brake hard but managed to hold my position with a loud "WHOA" which stopped everything in its tracks....other than the flippin cyclist, who went so close to my front wheel that I could smeel his aftershave.

Not sure if it was just a simple error...if it was then it certainly was his lucky day

I don't do that RAB enough to get it right whenever I do have to use it.

Never really have any issues with it, so long as you claim the lane nice and early, its a breeze. I truly believe this chap just made a mistake, he would have been crazy to have ridden like that on purpose.

I don't use that one all that often, but it's definitely in the more challenging of junctions.

Vauxhall is a toughie though, I just did a playlist of lane discipline errors, and 6 of my 8 videos are on Vauxhall. It's not hard to do it right, some people are just too lazy and careless to think ahead and change lanes as they're taught in their driving test.

I find Elephant & Castle a breeze compared with Lewisham roundabout (or should I say car park!), it's a total nightmare morning or night.

See, now I do that every day twice a day and I have no problem with it. Though it does have the nickname the RAB of Death in our workplace.

Lewisham is a bit challenging, but also no HPC or Vauxhall, IMO.

I agree on the Vauxhall bit....the long straights on the circular allow cars to use it as a race track rather than a gyratory...very tricky to move across lanes there.

I cant believe it. Happened again today.. worse this time, had a full on skid and very nearly an off.

Not cars or motorcycles ...just bloody idiots on bikes who looked straight at me as i was pointing across the junction with my right arm (showing them clearly I was going straight on...as well as being slap bang in the middle lane) and 4 or 5 of them still pulled right out in front of me at the very last moment.

If it happens again tomorrow, I'm going to have words.

This explains a lot about why "people" pull out on cyclists. Clearly even cyclists don't take cyclists seriously. If I were a cement truck they would have, I'm sure.

I saw a fella doing the right arm thing (pointing forward like a nazi salute ...or perhaps Usain Bolt would be more appropriate)a week or so ago and wondered why he did it, he must also have had the same issue.

Whilst you go around you could try belllowing like a banshee that had its nads kicked so hard they have gone into orbit, might give them second thoughts about going anywhere near the loony

You should try Swindons magic roundabout in heavy traffic, knightmare!! I haven't had the pleasure of biking it and prob wont as there is a lovely cycle path, if not a bit of a pain to use but the other day saw some young lass literally bike through the middle of it with seemingly no regard for how the whole thing works! madness and was suprissed she only got 2 different beeps.
