Some plonker has dumped a load of builder's rubble on a narrow country lane. Hesiers Hill in Warlingham, Surrey (which is quite steep at almost 20% in places).
The council has already put up signs to alert road users of this. So I went through at a snail's pace. However, a few seconds later there was a loud clank and a BANG!
I stopped to remove a 12" length of metal from between my rear tyre and brake caliper. So now my new ultegra rear caliper is dented and scratched, the rear carbon seat stays are scratched (under the bridge - although it's just the laquer, i hope) and worst of all my rear Michelin Krylion carbon tyre has a 1 inch hole. Those tyres (in 25mm) are harder to come by than a straight polititian
. I had to fix it with a patchwork of bits of inner-tube, glue and my plastic donor card - LOL. Just enough to get home.
I just wish that instead of putting up over 6 signs, the council would have just cleared the rubble away. Especially as what was there would have easily gone on the back of a pickup! I have now asked the council to clear it, as it is a hazzard.
Anyway, rant over. And thanks to all the passing cyclists who asked if I needed a hand
