I am sure all of us took risks at 23 that if they had not panned out, we would still be apologising for now. Lighting a candle does not breach a minimum "safe" threshold. My heart breaks for your daughter (and you) if she is blaming herself for such an innocent act as lighting a candle. She must have reined in so many usually harmless actions to have survived 7 years with epilepsy.

Dear All, thanks so much for your support and kindness. I really appreciate it, more than I could ever convey here.
I've deleted the post where I gave the exact details of how it happened, for the sake of privacy really. I wrote it when undergoing a kind of grief, I guess, but I thought it best to take the exact details down.
However, she is badly injured, and will require treatment over a long time, and her injuries will change her path through life forever.

CC is a wonderful forum. The support and kindness to strangers shown on here is commendable. I have met probably a dozen or so of yous in real life, and your kindness has been from the offer of gas-repairs, to a roof over my head while cycle-touring, and some fantastic rides with seriously lovely people.
