It were me Frank (although I understand the confusion between me and exceedingly handsome Tim H).
"Balls" to you. The bike just happened to be in the way. As you will realise by now, I often talk balls when on the seafront at Brighton (why stop there, I ask myself?) and this was a particularly fine example.

I meant OP Tim, not Tim H, but, as it was all in jest, any interpretation will serve!
Or have I got the wrong end of the stick once more and it was you who took the picture on the approach to Devil's Dyke ....?

To be perfectly Frank (oh I wish) I got it wrong Frank. Furter information is unnecessary I feel...

Thanks everyone for your help. Just having a little grapple over the rather restrictive rules. Apparently I need to give up all rights to the photo etc. etc. I will keep you posted.
Thanks
Tim

Hmmm Tim just read this - I'm a photographer and they're asking a lot here- basically to give up the rights for the image would usually cost several thousand pounds. They want to use it freely and commercially - the model release would be because they want it for advertising purposes...this is also incredibly cheeky- it's a way to get members of teh public who are none the wiser about copyright law and photography to give them very good images (which technically they SHOULD pay for) for free.

There's a big issue with this within photography as a career - if things are given away for free and also disguised as a competition it encourages people and organisations to not pay for work legitimately.

I could go on...PM me if you want more details and or if you want help with the terms and conditions.

I think it's a great photo - don't give your work away!

Grace - don't tell him it's worth farsends - he's let the blog use it for free!

oh too late then - he's done it - the blog are cheeky bastards for asking - Lonely planet get people to submit their travel photos for free instead of paying them for it or paying pro photographers to do it .... this is what is killing the industry amongst other things

Simon you have FNRttC related email.

Sorry bit slow on the uptake- are you talking about FNRttC blog? You're not asking for the copyright and to assign all his rights away though are you? If he wants to submit a great picture to your blog for that use then that's up to him!

What the employer/competition are asking for is a whole other sinister kettle of fish.

You do credit people for their photos don't you Simon so different as that's acknowledging the original creators copyright

I did mean that. There are two professionally taken photographs on the blog (on the South Wales page) and I wrote and asked saying that I couldn't think of a single reason why they would say yes. I got the most generous e-mails back, and the Zach Bulich, the young man from Vancouver who took the lovely picture of the Millenium concert hall is keen to go on a ride when he returns to the UK. You've reminded me to get in touch with PickledImages http://www.pickledimages.co.uk/ and invite them on the Bognor ride.

I think they have just got some standard text from somewhere and used that and it is indeed very restrictive. However, I have posed a number of questions for them and of course they don't know the answers. Apparently the photo must be unpublished, which rules that particular photo out. However they havent' defined exactly what a photograph is and I have several very similar images, which could be used I suppose. In addition due to the ability to make very small variations to an image using photoshop or similar, it would be possible to make an almost infinite number of images, that look similar, but are in fact different. I will keep you posted, when I get an answer.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice. I decided that I didn't want to give away the rights to my photo and I never had my questions about this answered satisfactorily. So if anyone would like to use the photo to illustrate our Friday Nights rides, please let me know and I will happily provide you with a copy.

You might also be interested in this picture of my new bike. Do you recognise the one on the right? Amazing coincidence, as it is the same bike that was the subject of my original photo. I took this on Saturday, whilst doing the Invicta 300km Audax. And all credit to the rider, as he was just about to leave, when I arrived, so was going at a fair pace.
