Pretty fancy bike I think - if it fits you and has had an easy life as the owner states then at £400 it could be good value.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

In terms of checking for mechanical soundness in general, are there any obvious signs that I need to look out for?

I'm not a pro mechanic or anything like that, but just check the frame over for any cracks or breaks and check the wheel hubs for any slackness. Same goes for the headset and crank. Looks like a good bike though. Don't miss out!

Make sure it fits you too, looks to be a small frame (I didn't look the description on the ad)

That's is only the starting price, I don't think it will be selling that cheap considering the components it has.

The bike cost £2.5k to build according to the owner is looking for around a £900 for it on other sites

Only the rear triangle and forks are carbon, the rest of the bike is said to be scandium which is simply a normal alloy frame with a exceptionally small percentage of scandium added to the material which makes welding the frame joins easier, its not an exotic material... It's marketing speak and nothing more.

You can also buy these in Europe used for £700 euros which works out around £600 quid

Cheap bike if that's what your looking for I would personally rather have a boardman

52cm is too small for a lot of people which may help to keep the price low.

I'm 5ft 7 and ride a 52cm frame and speaking from personal experience I have never had an issue buying bikes or selling them at that frame size.
I have never brought a bike which was cheaper due to the size or found them to be cheaper.

If anything keeps the price down it will be the brand perception itself in the UK imho

I realise it's a cheap bike in the grand scheme of things, but is the most I can afford currently, assuming I'm not outbid (fingers crossed!) - I'm also 5ft 7 so think the frame size should be OK. I'm currently riding a (very old) 54cm MTB, I'm hoping the 2cm won't make a great deal of difference to a beginner like me. I think some people may be put off due to the location, Edinburgh is a fair trek for a lot of people.

Thanks for all your feedback though - learning all the time
