and foods you just don't 'get'...

It still surprises me how as a kid, i DETESTED the taste or very idea of some foods..and yet happily eat them now.

Baked beans (ughhh), cheese (i couldnt even go in a shop smelling of cheese), yoghurt (jesus dad, stop telling me to just try it, its sour milk), just three i can think of, yet i love them all now, with a vengeance (well almost)
Baked beans, so simple, so tasty, so quick and versatile, but i draw the line at eating them cold (that's just disgusting dad xx() I dont think i ate a plateful till i was in my late 20s.

Yoghurt, how the hell can sour milk taste nice ?. Oh jesus, i go mental for it nowadays. It took me 40 years to realise how gorgeous it is.

Cheese, i really couldnt stand the very smell of it as a kid. Woolworths food hall in Newark, as a youngster i detested going in there. The advent of pizza in the early 80s made me think..it looks nice, it smells 'ok', but its cheese  ....that saw me get going with cheese, i happily eat it now (even tried Danish Blue)

Then there's food you NEVER tried, then did, then it made you realise you never will again.
Avocados...bleughhh. I tried my first one the other day at the age of 54. Never again. What a wierd wierd consistency, colour, taste...wierd. The taste wasnt awful, but the whole package made me feel ..yuk. It looked like a gone off hard boiled egg, the consistency of tofu (and there's a wierd food)...never again.

Whats your love, hate, or wierd taste.

Curry.
Neither of my parents like it so I never had it as a child.
I'm still not keen on the mega hot ones (believing that food should be enjoyed rather than endured) but love a curry these days.

Brocolli, I didn't like it until a few years ago.
Brussels Sprouts and Olives, for some strange reason I never tried them until a few years ago too.

Now I would eat them all to a band playing.

Food I have never 'got'..... Mint chocolate chip ice cream..... why do people go on about it as if it the best thing ever? Why? WHY??!!

As a kid I hated peppers and liver.

A few years ago I tried salsify, and I'm sorry but root vegetables shouldn't taste of fish. ("vegetable oyster" my a***)

These days I love peppers but will only eat liver once I've turned it into pate

Lots of meat as a child, especially roasts, and potatoes, fish, and lots of veg. Boy was I picky! There are still some things I don't like but mostly I will give new things a try and discover that I like them, including meat, potatoes and quite a few veg (there are still some I don't like). I now love olives and they are a weekly treat!

One of the devious ways that my mum used to try and get me to eat meat was to put it in batter and also batter apples at the same time. She seemed to think she could fool me which was which (no mum - one was definitely more squishy than the other), but it did disguise the taste a little.

Swede missed many a playtime coz I would not eat it.

Still won't touch the stuff - I'm assuming you mean the orange thing that I call turnip. I ought to give it another go - haven't tried it recently. I used to have to sit at the table for hours - I used to secrete the meat under the slip cover on the seat. I can remember my mother crying when she discovered (after a reasonable length of time), my secret stash! I've never made my kids sit at the table after everyone has left - it didn't work with me so I didn't see the point in repeating it.

I can think of a few things I no longer eat....

Processed meat . Red meat.

Originally gave them up because I found them hard to digest and now feel a lot better for not having them in my diet.

Still too fat though:-(
