Panini is the plural for the (masculine) noun "panino", meaning sandwich. I was suggesting that being so fastidious as to say "panino" in English would be pretty pompous.

Nothing wrong with paninis (or should I say "panini"), though!

If you asked for a Panino, the spotty youth serving you probably wouldn't know what you were on about anyway! They might even direct you to the nearest music shop!

Think how good they could have been if they concentrated on their football and not on where to ink the roman numerals of their next born or their wags name in chinese on their arm. I was enjoying a perfectly good game of football the other night when I got completely side tracked trying to decipher the crap tattoos on Raul Meireles arm - as a result I missed both Ronaldo's goals and it ruined a perfectly good spectacle for me. They should make them cover them up like they did when we had proper policemen.

In his prime I don't think Maradonna had a tattoo and Torres' form in the last couple of years suggests his tattoos have added extra weight or infected his brain or something.

It ain't just footballers either. All of the Toulon Rugby team turned up for teh last match I watched with the most bizarre haircuts (Except Johnny of course). There were a large number of Bastaraud style mohecans, but Lapeyre was the favourite

The commentators made great play on it all, and spoke of "The Demon Barber of Toulon"

As pompous as correcting Biggsy, then, and his pre madonnas!

No. That spelling was incorrect, not the anglicisation of a loan word.

Yeah. I wouldn't really expect that argument to hold up if I had made an error at school and said "What's the problem, Miss; you knew what I meant." Just take it on the chin if you get something wrong.

Whilst I completely agree with you, Adasta, I thought "pre madonna" was like slapping Jimmy Carr in a lift, and was hilarious on so many levels.

If you're the pedant you appear to be, you'll absolutley love this forum! It's full of typos, spelling mistakes, grammatical errors and incorrect punctuation, and when you've read, proofread and corrected the million or so posts, you just might be able to enjoy the content of the post. :hello:
