I passed it first time about 3 years ago, although it was fairly easy there are so many ridiculous reasons to loose points (such as not looking in a particular direction when parking) as soon as i passed i instantly dismissed these protocols as they are fairly pointless. I've forgotten a majority of them now, as to do a simple parallel park you're meant to look in certain directions and certain times throughout the park, so i reckon the majority would pass with flying colours in terms of driving quality, but not overall because the test is so catered to the modern lessens.

See this is why I went for RoSPA, I get retested every 3 years.

I couldn't do that. I couldn't keep up that standard of driving, it was hard to keep it up long enough to pass the test! RoSPA is a higher level again, well the silver and gold are for sure.

I passed first time a long, long time ago. I am sure I would fail if I took the test today. I must have picked up a whole skip-load of bad habits over the years, not that I know what they are. Like everybody else, I think of myself as a reasonably good driver....but then again, everybody thinks of themselves as a reasonably good lover, don't they?

I reckon I'd be alright with doing a test now. I'm another one though who uses gears when slowing down.

As an aside, my aunty passed her test in the 60s, despite driving round Six Ways Aston roundabout the wrong way. At the end of the test the examiner asked if she knew what she'd done wrong, so she said yes. Examiner said "and what do you do for a living madam?". "I'm a teacher" she says, to which examiner replies "in which case you've passed"!!! Her standard of driving is pretty shocking - she knocked a bloke off his motorbike and broke his leg and on another occasion fell asleep and piled into a load of road works at 60mph virtually writing off the car. As she's an evil bag I never see her and have never got in a car with her fortunately.

Past bike test first time in 1988 - Past car test first time in 1991. Although I consider myself a good/safe/experienced driver - I think I've got too many bad habits to pass now, without retraining.

That would be a fail these days. 15 is the limit. Wasn't the theory introduced in about 96 or 97?
I missed hazard perception by 6 months (introduced summer 2002 IIRC) which was failed by some peers in the first week of use.

Good job I took mine in 1997 then! Lol! I think I did the theory when it first came in. Isn't the driving test now about 50 minutes long too?

I know the motorbike test is now it two parts! I would hate to have to do that.

Took me four goes to pass my test! Third go was the best, almost drove across a pedestrian crossing with people on it and everything! ;0)

...it's a good job the car in front managed to contain your momentum.

You pass the RoSPA test & then get bronze, this is the IAM minimum standard, silver or gold. A bronze driver is a rough around the edges advanced driver but silver & gold has a more polished & progressive feel.
