OTOH, don't do it. I recall at least one cyclist who knocked the wing mirror off getting charged with criminal damage and getting convicted for it.

I just had a thought - if you broke a wing mirror and rode off, would that be leaving the scene of an accident? Does the law view the rider of a two wheeler as part of the vehicle?
