Got a Lithuanian driver here at the moment who is none to pleased that I have taken his documents (including his passport ;)) from him and refusing to hand them back until he sorts out his tyres. He cannot see what the problem is ;) These are the worst 2 !

A deathtrap waiting to happen

I have given him until 10 tomorrow morning to get a tyre company here and sort them out or I am calling the fuzz.

I once saw (in Morocco) a thriving garage 'industry' in one particular town (Meknes, I think) of re-treading worn tyres using hot needles to scratch a new pattern into the rubber! ;)

I regret so and not enough ministry of transport staff to carry out enough checks.
There was a report in the transport press a while back that out of 100 foreign trucks stopped on our roads more than 40% had a defect !

I have taken it upon myself when in the yard to check the tyres of any trucks on site and this is the 5th one this year I have stopped but clearly the worst to date.

How does that qualify for a spare... there doesn't look to be enough to call it a tyre ... looks more like a nesting spot for a robin perhaps.

Fuzz is such an underused word, the Lithuanian translation is fuzzski

Probably about two years wages for him to replace them.

His boss phoned me up as well trying to give me a hard time demanding I hand his documents back so he could leave. I told him the call was being recorded (not really ;)) and would be handed to the authorities unless he sorted it.

Going around tight corners and turning the vehicle around 'scrubs' the tyres.

The driver clearly has no clue and asked me to tell him how many tyres he needed ;) Something should be done to get these tosspots off the road and go through a thorough inspection when they arrive at Dover.
