Forget the Airzound

Reckon it'll be any help on the roads, with the way things are?

I think its long overdue. When you're in a car and you blast another driver with your horn, it succeeds because it embarrasses the hell out of them, telling the world and his dog they just messed up. Now they'll know they messed up round a bike. I want one but a more aesthetic model would be nice

I was thinking, "Great, I've been looking for something like this." Then I saw the photo:

Hmm ... And I thought the Airzound was cumbersome.

If it were a bit neater maybe I'd try it, but as it is no, looks like there could be horn knee contact.

My Airzound is in the shed it is used to frighten cats off the garden.

If anyone came up behind me and used one of them, they would find themselves in a hedge trying to pull an Airzound out of their butt.

If you need something that loud I would look at your style of riding rather than an Airzound.

I have a hornit on one bike and an airzound on my recumbent. The airzound gives the right sound, when you use it motorists pay attention. It's cumbersome but effective.
The hornit is conveniently small and loud, but sounds like an alarm not a horn. On a few occasions It hasn't caught the attention of the motorist. Not very effective.

I've considered the airzound before, but don't know anyone who's used one.
Not heard of the hornit, but if I did buy something, the airzound would be the first consideration.

If you need something that loud I would look at your style of riding rather than an Airzound.

There are many cyclists (here in Australia and elsewhere) who are experienced at riding in traffic, but still need something to draw motorists' attention. Some motorists need a reminder that cyclists are sharing the roads with them, and a bicycle bell (or even your voice) just isn't loud enough sometimes. I've never had to use my Airzound on pedestrians or other cyclists, but I have had to use it on motorists, and with ample justification.

I think I'll stick with my Airzound. It does a good job. It could do with a larger/stronger bottle so as to allow more blasts before needing topping up with air. The horn in this thread looks awful and too bulky.

If you can get hold of one, a two litre coke bottle. Will take a pressure of 100lbs psi(with no outer support) & you can adapt the lid to accept the tube for the AirZound

Thanks. I have been thinking of doing something like this. Need to do it as my Airzound currently has a leak and I am thinking it might be the bottle.

They do repair kits at Airzound don't they. Might help you in your MegaZound experiment.
I find the only problem with the air zound is it doesn't like the cold. It would be nice to have the fixed one bike, battery powered one, for that occasional safety use, you know, like sensible car drivers use it. Instead of slamming on the brakes and worrying what could hit you from behind.

Yep, main problem with the AirZound is finding the button at the right moment (and not accidentally striking it at the wrong moment!). I would imagine this would have a similar limitation. I stopped bothering with the AZ as I spent more time worrying about whether that close pass was close enough to justify a toot rather than just getting on with my life...

Otherwise I would spend more time topping it up at the side of the road given the number of nutters out here...

I got my Airzound because I was sick of motorists doing a SMIDSY, and then going on their merry way, totally unaware that they almost injured/maimed/killed. How are these drivers ever going to learn to improve their observation skills if they never even knew they were falling way short? The loudness is required because drivers are by and large cocooned inside their vehicle, with windows shut, and often music playing.

I only have one on my commuter, and sometimes it doesn't get used for several days or even a week, while on a bad day I'll need to wake up three gormless motards in just 20 minutes of riding.
