My dealextreme bar mounted cree a-like is starting to show its age. I'm quite taken with the reviews of the Philips Saferide's, but not up for retro filling a hub dynamo to get the 60 dyno version with a better mounting than the universally panned handlebar mount of the battery powered 80.

Does anyone know if its easy enough to fit the 80 to a B&M or other generic fork crown mount?

or recommend a fork mounted battery light of similar throw & reputation to the Philips.

I had to read this several times to understand the question.

I've got the 80 and there is nothing wrong with my mount? I can recommend the light but they are heavy so I don't think I would chance putting it in a mount that isn't designed to hold it.

The Saferide 80 used to come with a ball and socket joint, which everyone seems to complain about. I bought one about a month ago, and it also came with a 'normal' mount (one which doesn't have a ball and socket joint, so stays pointed in the right direction). I bought if from Rose, but I think it's standard to get that mount now.

I've got the 80 - while the beam is the best I've ever seen in a bike light, its flaws mean I can't really recommend it. The worst is the utterly moronic decision the designers made to limit the high beam run time to 90 minutes (70 in the first model), but it is rather large and unwieldy, I strongly suspect the inbuilt charger overcharges batteries (very bad for NiMH) and the mount is not the best. I don't believe they make a mount that will fit on a fork crown. I know that Busch & Mueller do, and they've just brought out an updated design of their Ixon IQ - might be worth checking that out?

Actually the fork crown mounting supplied with the dyno version is pretty sh1te too.
