The forecast for Sunday is okay - cold, but dry!

I'm just hoping I can still squeeze into my winter tights...

Cold and dry is good. Winter gear is well worn in now, and mine still fits

Bike cleaning fettling day tomorrow, need to unload as much weight off it as I can, valve caps and rear brakes are not really needed are they?

I'm giving this one a miss Colin, the days are too short for travelling the distance by car to Hebden Bridge, it would be dark when I set off and dark when I get home, plus I've just realised this second I'm working it, got my dates wrong thought it was next Sunday when I'm off.

But I will be there for "Spring into the Dales" on the 17th April hopefully as I am also torn between that and the "Brian Robinson Challenge" which is also on the same day, perhaps the audax will be my choice mainly because of costs etc, price of sportives seem to be rocketing but this one is for charity which makes it more reasonable to enter, I have took the whole of April off work as well to get plenty of riding in as I have come out of the winter months a bit unfit and a stone heavier.

Actually, unless you are riding fixed, a rear brake is required by law!

That's no flipping good. Call yourself an informal bike-ride organisator? Can't you order about five more degrees? Have it start at ten, there's a good chap.
I had a go, but the people in charge of the weather have reliably informed me that it will barely get above freezing point out of the sun between now and the end of tomorrow's ride!

Paul (and Hop3y if you are joining us) - this is important - I've decided to skip the scenic route out of Padiham. I'm very concerned that the shaded north-west-facing 20% descent after Read would be a prime spot for black ice so we will stay on the A671 out of Padiham and take our chances with the Devil's Elbow instead. (Forget that - Paul checked it out today and it is clear. We'll take to the lanes as planned.)

Either meet us on the A646 or at Spring Wood.

If you choose the A646, we should get to the junction with the A671 (Bacup Road) at about 10:45. If you get there before us, you could ride towards Tod to keep warm and meet us coming the other way). If we haven't met you by the time we get to the junction, we will wait there but it will be cold so try not to be late!

If you'd prefer to meet at Spring Wood, I'd guess that we'd be there around 11:30-11:45.

Let us know what you're planning to do.

The BRC is quite a nice event. I took part in the 2009 edition. Normally it is the week after SITD so it is a shame that they have brought it forward a week. I'll definitely be doing SITD again so if you choose that over the BRC, I'll see you for that!

I don't think we are actually out of winter yet! I'm keen to get the surplus pounds off and get fit this year. Seeing what our former 39 stone Gaz has done has reminded me that I should stop messing about and get stuck in!

Brian Robinson Challenge has been brought forward due to clashing with Easter on its usual weekend. Hadn't realised that clashed with SITD. Having done BRC for last 4 years (the first year it was still the Kirklees sportive) and SITD for last 2 and throughly enjoyed both I'm truly on the horns of a dilemma.

BRC has a different venue this year, on the far side of Huddersfield from here, but is an example of how a spotive should be run. £25 but with full marshalling, motorbike escorts, mass closed road start, free food stations and all proceeds to charity. Plus last year Brian Robinson shook your hand at the finish!

SITD is MUCH cheaper, has fabby free food at the end and just about edges it on scenery.

So am I, if the BRC was just a usual Sportive, I'd plump for SITD, but as its for charity its a good cause, as theres only 300 places for the BRC I think I'll let time decide for me. I was also planning to do the Phil Liggett challenge again, but at £27, I'm beginning to have a rethink, maybe I might just drive out one day and do the ride on my own or with others if anyone fancies it for a "jolley"

Whoo, that's troubling. There's two reasons I would never cycle the devil's elbow; the first dead body I ever had to lay out was because he'd been in a crash on that the previous day. Lovely guy, chatting away to us in the anaesthetic room and we said we'd see him later as we were going to the canteen. While we were gone, he died as a result of his injuries. Secondly, tomorrow happens to be the anniversary of my jolly head/floor interface which banjaxed me to smithereens. I know lightning doesn't strike twice but sometimes it just might. But FYI, there was NO ice at all on the shaded descent you refer to as I've just been over there today.

Bugger!! Just had an extra biscuit with my tea on the strength of that weight saving

Bike nearly ready now, clean-ish, picked 3 or 4 pieces of glass out of the tyres, chain cleaned and oiled, just deciding whether to put the guards back on and what luggage to bring.

No pictures of my bike tomorrow please, it will never pass the scrutiny of the OCD clubbers on here no matter how much I clean it, commuting duties have left it scratched and battered looking

don't worry potsy,

mines done 162.summat miles hard commute this week and it's looks like she's done it too. i was going to clean her today, but it's still 2 degrees below freezing and i didn't fancy water getting into something and freezing solid. i'll be in hebden around 9.15 to 9.30 if you still fancy a brew.

i don't have anyones numbers, i'm on my 3rd phone in 12 months due to dropping/getting wet etc.
