What is the protocol for organising Forum Rides? Can anyone do it? Do they have to be approved by the Lord and High Master of the Forum? Are (relatively) easy rides acceptable or do they have to be "hard core"?

easy rides? near Macc?

Has it moved then? I thought it was all hills up there?

As far as I know its a free for all on invites, and since it's your ride you can organise what you want

No approval needed.
Work out a route inc. mileage
Pre-ride route to make sure ok
Work out pits stops (halfway cafe etc).
Work out bail out points
Work out a date that suits.
A Meeting place.
A start time.
A proposed end time and place.
Inform what type of ride. Road, Off-Road etc
Give people an idea of proposed average speed and how much climbing.
Post on forum.
If one other rider joins you, you have a group ride
Take pics and report back how the ride went.

Anyone can organise a ride. I would suggest giving plenty of notice i.e. a few weeks. Let people know if it is going to be a flat ride or hilly. Plan and post a gpx or equivelant map of the proposed route. Keep to roads you know as you are effectively the guide. It is quite reassuring for the leader to say careful on this descent as there is a bad bend or poor road surface at the bottom. There is an unwritten but often stated forum rule that no one gets dropped. Regroup at the top of climbs or major junctions. I have always found on forum rides there are a mix of abilities but everyone is looked after.

The alternative we use in the bad weather (Nov - Oct up here ) is a Rendez-vous Ride. (RV)

It's much easier to organise - but you have to check a lot of cafes, to find the best CAKE :hungry: and coffee .

You post up that you will be in Xxx cafe from YY time to YY time and anyone is welcome to join you. People are free to choose how far and where they want to ride and they turn up to join you for CAKE :hungry: and chat (Cycle variety, of course !), before everyone makes their own way home - tired, filled, talked out and happy.
