I *think* I may have spotted a celebrity this morning!

A chap on a blue bike just like fossyant's avatar shared the ride with me from Hazel Grove to Reddish.

Even if it wasn't fossyant, it was a fantastic morning for commuting. There were four other cyclists on the A6 coming towards Stockport; we chatted a bit at the lights and then went on our separate ways.

Wish there were more friendly cyclists on my commute, actually whish there were more cyclists going my way full stop. As I have said in another thread I don't see many up North and when I venture South I am going out of the city so don't really see anyone.

Quite a few friendly types heading into town though.

Mind you I did get a double scalp this morning, over took a roadie who was overtaking a mountain bike. All very safe, loads of room given by all and no cars around at all. Was very satisfying for me To be fair I was chasing a PB (missed it by 15 secs) so was going flat out at this point.

I start my commute at 4.50am 9 miles and I see 1 maybe 2 other cyclists.
the one I always see spends most of his time on the pavement,even though the roads are all but dead

I admit it is probably wishful thinking -- he was doing around 35 km/h and had perfect timing for the lights on the A6.
I see a few people on my commutes, but no one is ever going my way and if they are, our speeds never quite match.

P.S. Would-be [arch-]nemeses*, apply by riding from Reddish towards Hazel Grove, then Poynton, Woodford, Wilmslow, Handsforth to Didsbury at 5 o'clock.

The red one below is my daily bike - very easy to spot...... the 'blue' skinny tyred one never commutes...ever......

I've been up and down Parrs Wood Road like a 'lady of the night's knickers' this week - been visiting other sites. I'm usually riding East / West in South Mcr or up Parrs Wood Rd/A34 into the big smoke. I'll occasionally touch the A6 from Wills Wheels shop (blatent advert) to Levenshulme.

Can't say I saw anyone in a moo cow shirt recently though....

Which way do you go from Wilmslow to Handsforth then Didsbury?

I go from Wilmslow (Stanley Green Estate) through Cheadle and then up the A34. I normally leave before you but possibly I have seen you when I have had to work late.

I might have known it wasn't you. I'll keep an eye out for the red bike. The moo jersey comes out for the rides in Cheshire -- it is effectively a camouflage gear in the country

Ahh so we only share a small fraction of the route (I go up the old A34 and through Cheadle and then right on up the A34 into town)

Do you always wear the cow top? I will keep a look out for you!!

Just out of interest is Styal Road better than Wilmslow Road as the latter does seem a more direct route.

EDIT - okay seen your post, you save your cow top for the countryside

I'm in gray shorts and fluorescent green & white top today; riding a Planet X TT frame (my other frame is being repaired; long story). Styal Road is not too bad, apart from a sharp (and narrow lane) climb from Bollin valley, it is actually fairly pleasant. It is also slightly downhill, so I can get up to some decent speed there!
When I feel a bit tired, I take Wilmslow road from Poynton. When I feel completely lazy, I just go straight home, without any detours. The difference is quite substantial -- the long route (through Wilmslow) is 35 km, the Cheadle route is 27 km; the "just get home" route is only 7 km.

Same here - some cross over too - Cheadle - Manchester Road and Didsbury, or via Sharston, Paletine Road and Didsbury.

My long route home is more or less the reverse of Jan's - i.e. Didsbury, Sharston, Styal, Handforth, Woodford, although I haven't done it much recently......as the fixed on a 74" is a barsteward to get up "Otterspool" towards Romiley - it's just OK on 70", but I can't be bothered flipping the wheel.
