France v Scotland

Good game, some nice free-running rugby from both teams, but watching it was spoiled for me by the sanctimonious whining of some weasel faced little git the BBC insist on using to commentate. At least the Brian Moore rants can be amusing and don't have the quality of fingernails on a blackboard!

That must be Jonathan Davies! Actually, I think he knows the game really well, and the way he thinks is far too quick for the commentary...like Brian Moore. Both have played the game at the elite level, and have an 'intuitive' knowledge of it which keeps spilling over...

I heard some of the match and it seems as though Scotland got outmuscled in the important bits - an area in which they were expected to do well.
Eddie Butler will tell me all about it in the Observer tomorrow!

Very impressed by the Scots today, scoring 3 tries over in France is a great effort. They will be one to watch as the tournament progresses, ahead of Wales and Ireland at the moment, very close to England, looking forward to the next games already.

Best game of the weekend by a country mile.

Can't see many teams posing the French the problems we did when we attacked.

Well done Scotland in defeat.:bravo: :bravo: :bravo: one for each of the tries

That is the problem, unfortunately. Your guys did very well in attack, but in order to beat France you need to stop them from playing their expansive game. You tried to beat them at their own game, and thats just not possible. Sides need to slow them down and win the game with tight forwards play. Todays game was very open, and great for counter attacking, which plays into their hands.

I'd agree with that darkstar. I've been a fan of the French rugby team for going on 25 years. They can be both exhilarating and exasperating in equal measure. They love to throw the ball around and will look beatable. On their day, when things work for them, it looks attractive but against a well disciplined team they get frustrated, and loose it. The Aussies tonked them (in France) last year and made them look very poor indeed. They have become more measured and controlled in recent years but, sadly, you never really know who is going to turn up when they take the field.

I personally thought France were poor today. Good in passages but overall poor. That last Scottish try was a loss of concentration and shouldn't have happened. On the weekend's performances, I'd back England to beat them... but then England have hardly been consistent over that last few seasons! So who knows?

With the Irish looking so pedestrian in Italy, I reckon there's no real shoe-in this time around. I'll have to have a look at the fixture list; see who's where and when.

Thanks iPlayer! The France front row are going to cause trouble this year it seems. I was surprised to see Murray given the once over by Domingo, and everyone in the France front row looked exceedingly mobile. The young second row for Scotland did well too - is his name Gray? Soft try for Scotland though - other teams might stay awake in the danger zone!
However, Scotland played well. France v Italy at 'crouch, touch, pause and whack' time might be interesting!
And it was nice to see Bonnaire playing - always like the way he plays rugby.

The Scots were certainly struggling against them - you could see that penalty try coming, despite the ref's prolonged warning!

I think France v Wales on the last day could be a very good, and perhaps deciding, match.

Ireland need a front row. Missed ferris the wrecking ball in the back row..too many players the same. Leamy deserved to go..ireland hadbeen warned..however the ref was a bit one eyed..Italians were offside quite a bit. On any other day Ireland would be out of sight..darcy dropped more in that game than in all other matches I have seen him in. Will be an interesting game v france next week. England played rugby ala Johnson..lack of vision against wales..missed lots of overlaps by playing the ball up the middle. While they may have power..theres still a lack of guile. Wales like Ireland suffered from injuries and lack of confidence. The french game is hard to judge..the french try to play rugby so often create a rick or two but generally have enough quality around the field to score more than the opposition. As usual with 6n openers lots of mistakes and excitement interspersed with the odd moment of rugby

He's my all time favourite player. Intelligent, physically brave, played at the highest level in both codes. Him and Offiah together - the opposition never stood a chance.

No arguments there, just wish he'd stuck to playing!
