It's never appealed to me TBH, it's too OTT for what I ever want to a acheive on a bike.

Good luck though, hope all goes well and hope the weather plays ball.

Decided to read up on the Fred Witton Challenge, that looks like alot of fun. How many metres or feet of climbing is there?

The new wheels look super sweet on your bike. I tell you, I look at bikes to buy on Wiggle and the like, and I see nice carbon bikes here and there, and then I see a real persons bike on this forum, and they look so much better than the brochure shots. I have never really considered a Scott CR1 before, is that the Team version you have. Me likey.

You're going to use those wheels for the Fred Whitton?

How will the brakes perform on the downhills?

How will they be if it's windy? (very likely)

What if a rock flies up and damages your nice rim?

Best of luck! Got a few mates doing it, but the weather is looking great. I'd love to do it myself one day, but I'm nowhere near fit enough now.

Good luck. I've done the Fred Whitton once and it was probably one of the hardest days I've ever had on a bike

The scott's a CR1 comp but its a awesome frame..I wont be using those rims due to the gusty winds forcast on the tops..and I have some much lighter ones for this sort of event...my garmin logged 11.274ft of climbing last year so yeah theres a bit of climbing  The forecast seems to be slightly better than it was so fingers crossed!
The Exalith brake rims are very good on those wheels there not full carbon..that would be suicide in the rain coming down wrynoes!

what do you ride globalti - because some of those questions are a little strange

what if a rock comes and damages your nice rims??? that could happen on any bike with any rims or frame material

how will the brakes perform on downhills?? same as all the other brakes perform, will be a little sketchy until the speed is scrubbed up, but shouldn't be any problem

how will they be if its windy?? they might wobble around a bit, but it was very windy on the giro, TOB and Tour of california over the weekend and they were all using deep section rims and seemed to all fair ok. The OP may not be a pro rider, but i'm sure he could handle them fine as they not really that deep to be fair

Not strange at all: I was genuinely concerned that they look like full carbon rims and I don't believe carbon has the best reputation for braking, especially if wet. Also that a less valuable rim might be more suitable for the rocky rigours of the Lake District and finally, having experienced deep dish rims in cross winds, that they might prove to be a bit of a liability if the weather is windy. That is all. Anyway it looks as if all but two riders had a ball and Fuji-stu answered my concerns, above.
