REQUEST & RESPONSE

I wish to know how many cyclists have been stopped by police officers for riding on pavements or going through red lights during 2013, or if you believe this will take too long then please provide the figures just for October.

The number of offences during period 1/1/2013 - 31/12/2013 was:

  • Cycling on footway (HY35006) - 20
  • Contravene traffic sign / signal / line (TS02002) - 2

West Midlands or West Mercia police are sods to be honest there seems to be no cautions or anything they just go for the jugular! I just find it all odd because most cycle lanes in Gloucester are on the pavement .

Some stats for 2001 to 2011 on that subject here http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201213/cmhansrd/cm120711/text/120711w0002.htm

Search down for Road Traffic Offences: Cycling "how many cyclists have been prosecuted for cycling offences in each court division in each of the last 10 years by type of offence"

In Manchester, 2011
Cyclists fail to stop on signal and failing to comply with traffic signals or signs: 1
Pedal cycles—riding on footpath: 15

Not precisely what you're after but not far off.

Edit. I mis-read the OP. But what the heck.
