Years ago I did the structural roof design for a masonic lodge and was given a full set of drawings.
The building had a sub-basement, what the hell are they getting up to down there?

Only the first of those three is true.

Catholics don't like masons, because they should not keep secrets from their priest. Masons are only required to have a belief in a god, any god will do.

Women are allowed but not in the same lodges. There are two women's Grand Lodges recognised as regular by the United Grand Lodge England. Saying women aren't allowed in is like saying that women aren't allowed to play football. They are, they just play at different times.

Probably used for eating.

From the above two answers (written before thelurker had replied), I'd suggest that Google might be a better place to get information on this one than Cycle Chat.

Freemasonry is almost all about charity work. Sure, there may be some people who take advantage of social contacts but that is not only not what Freemasonry is about, it is explicitly forbidden. Such people will take advantage of social contacts made from the golf club, the gym, the pub etc.

The Freemasons are the second biggest charitable donators in the country (the first being the national lottery).

The Freemasons are not a secret society, they are a society with secrets.

ANYTHING you want to know about the Freemasons can be found with a little time spent on google (although, if you're planning on joining I wouldn't recommend it. It would spoil the fun!)

Lodge meetings are basically a mixture of amateur dramatics, eating and emptying your wallet for charity.

Or Voluntary Taxation, as it's known.

That's straight out of the Manual, isn't it?

The Freemasons are a back-scratching club. Yes, they do a lot of charitable work, but you don't join a club if all you want to do is be charitable, you do it on your own.
