+1 for the Northwave Celsius boots. In fact I have 2 pairs which I bought when they were on sale in the spring a few years back. I have the black normal ones and the yellow arctic ones. Pair those with some merino socks and I'm good all winter.

In between here and there
I bought my Northwave Celsius in 2010 or 11 and they have served me well for 5 winters one of my best buys. Dug them out and had forgotten they had broken and I had resolved to buy them on sale in the Summer. The wire had pulled through the top fastenings. So just ordered some extremes. In heavy rain the water does getting in through the top especially if you do not have guards but for comfort and warmth they are unbeatable. I order a size up so I can some thermal socks on. The only issue I have with them is they look a bit weird with shorts and they were a bit hard to clean for some reason

My bf suffers from chilly toes too! He mentioned shoe covers or something to keep his feet a little warmer, but maybe some good running socks will do the job? They keep mine warm enough when I'm out for a jog!

I have some of these https://www.inov-8.com/race-ultra-gaiter.html which go under my bib tights and over the top of the boots, and I can even clip the front under the top velcro flap on the boot. So far so good, although I haven't been in a proper downpour yet. I got them for about a tenner so shop around.

It really does feel like winter now and the temperature seems to have plummeted over the last week or two. Usually my core is pretty easy to keep warm, but my feet really suffer!

Even with two pairs of socks + overshoes, my last couple of (quite short) rides have ended with frozen feet!

Does anybody have any tips for keeping feet warm? I'm considering getting some winter boots such as http://www.wiggle.co.uk/northwave-celsius-2-gtx-spd-winter-boots-wiggle-exclusive/ - but they are hugely expensive! Does anybody have experience with these, and are they worth the outlay?

Cheers,

A

I too suffer really badly with cold feet, so this year (using the ctw scheme) I've invested in some shimano gortex winter boots. They make a massive difference, and I have warm feet with just one thin merino sock.
A word of warning, however, in heavy rain the rain runs down your leg and fills them with water!!! (As I found out yesterday) resulting in freezing feet, and boots that take an age to dry out......... I wasn't happy yesterday....
friends riding with other branded "winter" boots suffered the same...

Update - as I'm too skint to buy the north wave boots just yet I tried toe covers + overshoes + merino ski socks + cardboard soles for my ride today.

My feet weren't exactly toasty, but it was bearable. I'm holding out for a pair of the north wave boots either for Christmas or when they're on sale in spring / summer!

Another one here who suffers dreadfully from cold feet. OK, I cycle using ordinary flat pedals, but I use a pair of lightweight walking shoes and two pairs of socks. One pair is a standard thin cotton sock, but over that I wear a generic (read lidl / primark) version of the sock shop feet heater socks i.e. the 2.9 tog jobbies with the brushed insides. I don't go out in the rain (cycle for fitness only) but in dry weather certainly works well enough.

I got some northwave winter boots, and like others have said, I think they are the best buy subject to budget. I got mine in a half price sale for £75, coupled with tesco vouchers and cash back site I ended up paying about £60 in cash from Evans cycles. No faffing around with these. Just put them on and ride. If the rrp is too much, try and get them in a sale.
