Three flashing (on my bag)
What the heck...rechargeables are cheap to run.

Also one steady fixed to the bike...also one backup fixed to the bike which isn't used except in an emergency...Covered with cling-film till needed.

My vote is for two bright rear lights, on without flashing. I don't want vehicles behind me to assume I'm a bicycle.

I don't want cars behind me to assume im a BMW.

I've also got a Fire Flute attached to my rucksack, they don't appear to be available anymore but its a foot long tube with about 12 LEDs. It eats batteries but most motorists seem to be aware of me from behind (Ooo er)

I'd veto a balacava or anything that covers the ears. Yes they'll get cold, but the ability to listen to traffic behind you is far more important.

I find a woolly hat over the ears actually gives better hearing - because it stops the loud wind noise I otherwise hear. Oh, you're not a wingnut I hear you say? Well I am.

Ich bin Powerfrau!
I have four rear lights (two steady attached to the headrest, two flashing attached to each wing mirror) and three front lights (one Cateye 530 by my feet and one flashing white LED on each front mudguard).

Basically I look like a UFO or something. However the lights serve to show cars that I'm not a standard bicycle, that I'm wider than they might think. Seems to work really well so far, plus with all that built-in redundancy it's not a problem if I get a flat battery or two!

This is my first autumn / Winter commuting by bike.. I'm quite looking forward to warm showers when I get to work.

I just have a couple of flashing LED lights, but hoping to upgrade to something more visable before the dark afternoons appear!
