Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - The Winter of the Long Hot Summer Written in '92 before Gulf II and Afghanistan.
Public Enemy - Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos. Not their best, but always found Chuck D worth a listen or a read. Why does that make me sound like the Daily Telegraph music correspondent from Armstrong and Millar?

When ever I hear the term "anti war song" I secretly die a little inside and brace myself for some beardy corduroy wearer who has been about as close to the end of a rifle or enlistment for economic reasons as one of the Amish people of Pennsylvania.

I have time for PJ though.

She doesn't pretend she is lucky, clever or enlightened for having not fought in an unjust or needless war, she skips that by being a female artist and just trying to understand.

Move over Oscar Wilde we have a new pretender.

Why don't you tweet that one and see if all three of your followers including some porn-bot add an LOL as a comment. We would love to to see a screen shot of you slaying them with your razor sharp social observations.

By the way, if enough people burned down all the organic vegetable box supply warehouses would you die from starvation?

Hmmm.

Currently I am occupying myself piecing together my father's war experiences. I have 130 letters he wrote home from the invasion of NW Europe and which there is no doubt he intended should be kept and read. As they were censored I am using the units' war diaries, his later account and t'internet to match his letters to events. One thing that is clear from the letters is that the experience changed him considerably although not as much as one of his peers whose mental state deteriorated to the extent he had to be sent home. Others of course were killed and wounded and one of the unit's drivers shot himself shortly before they crossed the Rhine. The worst time for many was after the German (and Japanese) surrender as so many suddenly realised the war was over, the celebrations ended and they looked at what had happened, the prospect of their post-war lives and thought of their comrades who had not 'made it'.
