I went to see Saga at Hammersmith Odeon years ago. I still love this song. The McGarrigle sisters in the OP really takes me back, my Mum used to love them when I was a kid so we used to listen to them a lot. Them and Gallacher and Lyle. Good old hippy was my mum.

Hah, the Weatherthans headlined the music festival on the island where I live a couple of years ago...

Here's a Canadian band none of you will have heard of... they're friends of mine and they are awesome - one of those big collective bands that Canada seems to specialize in - but have the worst name in pop history, The Gertrudes...this is recorded entirely live an accoustic in someone's back garden.

I like that, really rather good - quite the debt of gratitude to this mob mind:

Who I really do love, and had forgotten were Canadian.

One of my favourite Canadian bands: The Sadies, who I've managed to catch live a few times. They mix up surf-rock, psychedelia and country, in a Byrds / Flying Burito Brothers style... this is a fun selection of some of their stuff in live TV show format:

Arcade Fire are another of those collective bands. They owe a debt to Toronto's Broken Social Scene (who Feist started with) and then there's Vancouver's New Pornographers (who Neko Case used to sing with)... I don't know why but these collective 'scene' bands are all over Canada.

NE USA too - see also Typhoon, who seem to soundtrack half of Rapha's videos.
