Don’t know if this one counts, but in 1969, The Marmalade recorded “Reflections of my Life”

In 2014, 45 years later, lead singer Dean Ford re-recorded it.

[rant] I'm seeing buggerall covers that are even as good as the original let alone better. For example, there's no evidence so far that you can do a straight cover of the Beatles and make it better unless it's one of Ringo's songs. The same applies to Queen, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and from the evidence in this thread, Elton John. If you need to cover these artists and make it worthwhile you need to do something different. Well, I certainly liked the way that Robert Wyatt 'Monkeed' around with I'm a Believer... :okay:

NB It is amazing to think that ...

Wikipedia article said:
... there were strong arguments with the producer of Top of the Pops surrounding Wyatt's performance of "I'm a Believer", on the grounds that his use of a wheelchair "was not suitable for family viewing", the producer wanting Wyatt to appear on a normal chair. Wyatt won the day and "lost his rag but not the wheelchair".
We sometimes forget how much things have changed in the past 40 or 50 years!
