The emergence of this music was incredibly exciting - I remember listening when it was pretty much all party jams, and then the massive shock of the first Public Enemy album, the arrival of Gangsta Rap.... It's a form that's still doing things that I find interesting and novel, even if not all of it is my cup of tea. One of those genres that I can't understand people having a wholesale aversion to, given its breadth.
