I lost my best mate just over a year ago to cancer. He was a big cricket fan, and a big music fan and his favourite cricket song is Roy Harper's When an Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease. It's always been one of my favourite Roy Harper songs, and from the moment I learned that John's diagnosis was terminal, this song developed a new, much more heartfelt meaning to me... especially the line "And it could be Geoff and it could be John..."
