Good choice Noodley (BTW, sorry, can't get into the new avatar...).

Great start, Doris Day is Fab!

But I'll try and trump it with some Barbara Streisand from 'Funny Girl'

Neither can I, does not look right at all. But Fletch needed a wee break. He will be back very soon. In fact I reckon he's hiding in the bus coming through my gate now....

A question for Noodley? I can remember a musical from the same era as John's first link. It was in a room, yes, I know  bear with me. The camera work was such that it looked like Fred Astaire or who ever it was, was dancing up the walls and along the ceiling, but in fact was just brilliant camera work. Can you remember the name of the film?

Modern musicals are dire, even in an ironic way. Just a disatrous waste of time.

I enjoy stuff like Weill and Brecht. Apart from that there is really no other option apart from an original greek tragedy. If people could hear a chorus from a sophocles or aeschylus piece then they might see a faint glimmer of the underpinnings of modern musical drama.

And before anyone runs away to get into all this stuff, because I'm into it, then don't bother because you'll just dilute it. It's not on youtube anyhow.

Putting on the Ritz?

Towards the end of this there's a bit...

Is it from Royal Wedding? MGM used a special set that revolved to make it appear as though Fred was dancing up the walls and onto the ceiling.
