Vivaldi by Curved Air - not many rock bands have violin solos, never mind one as long as this!

Good thread this. I know next to nowt about classical music - and having a Classic FM (shudder) listening partner doesn't help, as whenever I hear it, it sounds to me like someone's funeral. Either that or there's an Autoglass ad on - which is most of the time.
But some of the stuff on this thread is tolerable - even for an old rocker like me.

Depends if you class Andrew Lloyd Webber as "classical, but NIghtwish and Phantom of the opera is worth a look

The singer Tarja Turunen can certainly sing, and the tempo change is superb.

I however can't quite work out the two girls in the audience who seem to be finding it an almost rapturous experience!

Having seen Nightwish in their glory days, I can confirm that listening to Tarja is a truly memorable experience. Those lassies have maybe gone a bit far, but I can understand their reaction.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Gently rocked-up, and done with a lot of love and skill.

More extreme - it's part of a double CD of all the Goldberg variations. I'm afraid Jazzers generally do it better than Rockers.

David Rees Williams is another jazzer who's done some great things with classical music - unfortunately no video links.
