There are lots of good CDs around with Ska collections, some are a bit hit and miss, Youths Boogie is a good one.
I did see a programme on Jamaican music that was interesting. They gained independence in 1962 and were very optimistic and happy so had SKA which is up-beat. After a few years the county hit hard times and they were not so into partying and so the beat slowed down to be Reggae.
I was into 2 tone music as a teenager and just took it as it was but have only quite recently seen that it really is a poor copy of original SKA and rather turned into a novelty act. All good fun still though and still like original and UK derived later copies and spin offs.
