This was from their 'comeback' CD, a few years after they were turned into heroines/pariahs, dependant on your political views
It was at the time of the Gulf War, & they denounced President George Bush on stage, in London, claiming that they were ashamed to also be Texans
(SWMBO & I saw them, at the Manchester Apollo, which was the previous concert date)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chicks#2003–2005:_Iraq_War_comments_and_backlash

Uproar followed, CDs smashed, bans from radio-play
Death threats!!!

The lyrics are pure political gold:okay::notworthy:
The black being daubed, is the oil or the middle-east, & for Bush (as the family is involved in oil)
The Dixie Chicks

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I’m not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I’m still waiting

I’m through with doubt
There’s nothing left for me to figure out
I’ve paid a price
And I’ll keep paying

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right
I probably wouldn’t if I could
‘Cause I’m mad as hell
Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can’t you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don’t mind sayin’
It’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they’d write me a letter
Sayin’ that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I’m not ready to make nice
I’m not ready to back down
I’m still mad as hell and
I don’t have time to go round and round and round
It’s too late to make it right

I've still got my tour t-shirt, but too fat to wear a 'small' now

Despite all the idiotic bile piled onto them from gullible US idiots, they were actually correct in what they said.

Arguing against the death penalty?

So when the preacher comes to get me
And they shave off all my hair
Could you take that long walk with me
Knowing Hell's waitin' there?

Could you pull that switch yourself, sir
With a sure and steady hand?
Could you still tell youself, sir
That you're better than I am?

He also changed his mind on gun control, & wanted it, not an easy thing for a Texan!!!
