Well don't buy anything from the new Electrolux/AEG/Zanussi group as the quality control is sh1te.
The 1st replacement Co-Op sent was damaged, not by them or the transporters I hasten to add. The damage was beneath the packaging so the freezer was damaged at the assembly stage or in their factory. The Co-Op contacted Electrolux who in turn dispatched a local engineer.
The Electrolux engineer who I mentioned earlier, replaced the damaged door on my new freezer on friday. Within 24 hours I had more problems.
I opened the door of the new freezer on saturday evening, a day later and to my shock there was a thick layer of ice all the way up the inside of the door and over the front of perspex food storage boxes. The previous door although being damaged never caused this. So checked the seal all the way around the door and found that the bottom seal running across the width of the door has a half inch gap between it and the body of the fridge! Plus there is lots of heavy scratching on the bottom, masking tape and other gluey substances. I don't believe for one second that it was a brand new replacement door, more likely a cast off from a spares machine.
So I've now emailed the Co-Op from whom I purchased it, advising them I am not a happy customer and would like to hear how they intend to resolve this asap, as by the end of the week, the freezer will in all likelihood be totally iced up as the compressor is working 24/7 as the door may as well be open as the door seal at the bottom is non existant.
Maybe in the days when Zanussi was Zanussi and AEG was AEG the quality of their appliances was much better. I certainly had no such probs when I bought the big Zanussi fridgefreezer and washing machine 12 years ago. That's why I repurchased Zanussi. Never again.
The old fridgefreezer is now working fine having heated the kitchen to 20-22C for two days (££££). The lower freezer half was down to -24C at 4pm but is up at -18C now. The food in it is rock hard which is reassuring. The fridge is fine at 1C.
Watch this space.
