Ah, so it wasn't that he was ignored, the cop had clearly taken his details. For the record "taking a statement" in a case like this will involve quite a lengthy drawn out process of writing down a formalised account of what your friend has seen. It's not something that can be done in a notebook at the side of the road near to the scene of a fatal collision.
Must have been a horrible thing to be part of. Your friend needs to mention to whomever interviews him that he has been upset by the incident. They will (or should) put him in touch with a counselling service. In West Yorks the incident may well be investigated by MCET (Major Collision Enquiy Team) who are about as professional in their actions as it gets.
It sounds to me like the sort of terrible incident that happens because of the mixture of traffic and pedestrians. I don't know the area at all so i can't add anything sensible. Your pal needs some TLC and perhaps more.
And this pays no heed to the friends and family of the poor victim; how utterly devastating at any time, but how much more at Christmas. They will never enjoy xmas again; so sad.
Indeed. I wasn't saying he was to blame, just a close miss can distract someone from the rest of the traffic and the coroner may well want to note the inattention demonstrated by the victim in their verdict.
