The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Was accompanied by a splendid cock pheasant as I climbed the hill back to the village. If I slowed, so did he, if I accelerated, so did he. At one point I stopped, so did he. Kept about 3-4 feet away from my wheels on my right, and after about 400 yards, obviously bored by my attempts at conversation, he stopped and I continued alone. Very strange.

There again today - waiting on the drystone wall, he fluttered down and accompanied me on the descent this time. Stopped and chatted for a while, him no more than 2 or 3 inches from my front wheel. He lost interest and slowed as we passed the farm entrance half way down - I noticed he has a pronounced limp and shows no inclination to take flight - maybe he was hand reared by the farmer. I wouldn't rate his chances against the local foxes.
