Friendly riders needed Thursday 2nd May 2013 in West Mids

I hope that I've posted in the right section, if not, please let me know.

I am pretty new to road biking and I have managed only 10 miles so far, mostly because of trying to find time to escape.

On Thursday 2nd May I seem to have most of the day to myself and I'm looking to put some gentle miles on the bike, so I am looking for somebody to come and help me gain my confidence on the roads and enjoy some bike time.

I'm based in Stourbridge but I might be in Kidderminster first thing but I'm flexible to meet in either places or anywhere that's near.

Please apply within if anybody is interested and go from there?

Thursdays are probably not the best days for arranging something. On the plus side, it looks like the weather will be rather pleasantly warm and sunny. From Stourbridge, you've got the Clent hills to the south, though that's probably a bit challenging if you're just starting out. It's flatter [1] to the west, though that's not an area I know terribly well.

If by "friendly" you mean "grumpy" (so I've been told ) then I'd be happy to meet up.

[1] By which I mean "not as hilly"!

The joy of being an 32 year old ex-nhs worker that has suffered in the hands of the government and had redundancy in January, Thursday is just another day that I'm at home and not wearing shirt and tie :-)

I'm not able to do a huge ride as I will be clear from 10.45am and need to be in Kidderminster for 3.45pm. That actually sounds a long time lol

I can manage a hill or 5 but not able to fly up at Wiggo speed

If you've not done too many miles, I'd say that 1-2 hours is more than plenty. That's probably around 10-20 miles at an easy pace. Five hours most definitely is a long time, and that would be skipping lunch! I'd suggest a time of 11:30 am at some point of mutual inconvenience - our traditional meeting place is the Grange Road Island. I would suggest Holy Cross or Clent village for the quiet roads if you've got the use of a car.

And shirt and tie will most definitely not be needed

Hi, I'd suggest meeting outside the Bell and Cross if that's not too much trouble for you to get to. If it is, meeting in Stourbridge is possible, but all the routes out seem to involve busy main roads, and I can appreciate that you might want to start off somewhere quieter!

That's no problem to meet you there, can we park on their car park or is ok to park on main road?

There's usually plenty of parked cars on the roads about so there's no issues with parking: there usually are spaces, though that's not something I tend to take much notice of when I cycle past!

That was really enjoyable, although I did chicken out on two hills but now sitting in the car after packing the bike away and wanting more, after a rest that is!!
