Front fork movement

Hi to everyone.
i have a carrera subway 1 and have recently noticed a bit of movement at the top of the front forks where they go through the frame. is this normal?

if you mean back and forth movement, then no. sounds like you have a loose headset.

I'll guess that your head bearings need a little adjustment

I have the same bike and by the sounds of it the same problem.


I took the bolt out of the top of fork ( see threadless head set maintence here )

When i took the bolt out i found a load of gunk/rust beneath it.I took this out and retightend the bolt and made it a lot better.

I stopped to ask the owner if I could be of assistance. He replied "Not unless you are carrying a spare set of forks in your bag!"

He'd just ridden down some steep hills but it wasn't until he came to a flat road that his front mudguard started rubbing against his wheel. He got off to investigate and discovered that his forks were about to snap off!
