They haven't got any choice about pedalling, I'm assuming that's a fixed wheel. I also assume that the stoker is disabled in some way?

It is a fixed wheel they had to keep on going but F***ING hell look at how small the wheel was when they stopped.

Course it's fixed......track bike !! The rim must have gone as well, for it to shred the wheel - running on the sides if the disc....
