Frustrating

It’s Sunday.

All of the bike shops in the area are closed.

Except one.

It has a fully equipped workshop.

And it’s staffed by idiots.

I needed a spoke nipple. I had one, but there was a broken bit of spoke inside.

“I’m looking for a spoke nipple for a 2mm spoke”

“Sorry, we don’t sell them”

“Really?”

“Really. But I’ll see if there’s a spare one in the back. Can I see the original”.

I gave it to him, and he went through to the workshop. 5 minutes later he reappears.


“I found one, but it was the wrong size”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s the wrong thread. Every spoke is different, and none of the spokes we use would screw into the nipple you gave me. It must be an unusual thread”.

“That’s because there’s a broken bit of spoke inside. The threads are all the same”

“No they're not...”

I then remembered that “on yer bike”, our local bike-fixer-upper charity, was usually open on a Sunday. Headed round there, wandered into the workshop, said “I’m looking for a spoke nipple”. Bob, the mechanic, nodded towards a big tray of “stuff”, and said “have a look..”, and laughed when i said “how much do I owe you?”.

I stuck something in the donations tin, and left happy.

This beautifully equipped bike shop wouldn't happen to begin with a "H" would it?

A bike shop, that begins with H, which is open on a Sunday? Can’t imagine who you mean :-)
