Full throttle?

When riding normally, do you try to go as fast as possible, or just casually coast around?

I try to keep a steady pace (17/18 mph on flats and 25 mph with a tailwind).

But what do other cyclists do? Do you puch yourselves as far as possible, or just maintain a leisurely pace?

99% of the time, i'm always going as fast as i can, given the distance i'm going to do.

For me to ride steady, it rarely happens although a couple rides just lately have been just that, a pootle. Very enjoyable as well...mustn't get to like it too much

Depends on the type of ride i'm doing. If i went full throttle then I would only do a few mile ride, but that would be at +30mph.

All depends on what type of ride I'm doing. If I'm only out for upto an hour I will push myself especially on hills, if I'm on a 2 or 3 hour trip I just try and keep a steady pace up

I go at a pace that I could sustain for a period of several hours. If I tried to go full throttle I would very quickly burn out and end up having to use the car, so it would be pointless.

Depends on conditions - mine, the roads and the weather. And if I can see someone in the distance to chase or not

You've already answered your own question: steady pace. Beyond that, +1 to what al78 said, assuming we're not talking about short commutes, blasts across town, racing to the X to do Y before Z shuts, etc.

Commuting I ride easy most of the time. Sunday rides, if I'm on my own, I'll push on a bit, if I'm with a group I'll travel at the pace the group is going, if I can sustain it, if not I'll drop of the back and finish at my own pace. If I'm doing more distance than I'm used to I'll ride easy.

Depends which bike I'm riding. If it's the winter bike with it's panniers, nice and steady is the order of the day, if it's the CAAD10 then it's generally a frantic fast as you can affair, and if it's the Spesh Langster it tends to mirror the CAAD10 as much as commuting allows until my legs can cope anymore

If I did 30mph on my old hybrid it would shake it to bits lol, usually I do about 19mph on the straight

After a big ride, the commute into work no longer excites me, so I ride relatively gently.

Bored, frustrated, happy, needing a challenge, or someone ahead of me, then its full throttle. Which is far too often.
