Bought a new bike in 1996, a Univega 502. Outside the shop, adjusting the saddle position, I dropped the borrowed multitool and chipped paint off the chain stay. It got a matter of inevitability out of the way early on.

That's the way sir.....one must remain philosophical about such matters......

......or don't matters....

It's got character now. It's yours. Could have been one of hundreds/thousands before; now it's unique.

(Also, as others have said a) It was bound to happen sooner or later, assuming you actually use it, and b) so what? It's a bike!)

We've all been there. my bike hugged a lamppost, slid down and "kissed" a protruding ring as it fell. Put a tiny dent in my top tube; but more importantly f@*$! the paint right up. - Red is not a good color to remedy, but I tried my best.

You can see where I painted above the scuff mark on the grey, It was by hand. - I later went over it with some T-Cup to cut and blend the paint in better, sadly, the paint on that frame was air brushed on, using un-thinned paint by hand would always stand out -

It was honestly quite enjoyable to remedy this.
You bury your frustrations with each layer of paint.

Vaguely on topic....
Mick Doohan, when donning pristine new racing leathers for the first time, would throw himself on the ground to christen them before racing.
Apparently it was not an uncommon superstition among bike racers back in the day.
