I do 28 round trip 5 days a week. I wouldn't fancy much more. The main problem for me would be I'd gave to eat constantly; it's bad enough now.

Currently do 12 miles one way, 5 days a week - 1500ft of daily climbing.

Would stretch to 15 miles everyday. I'd consider 20 if it's flattish, but may not do it everyday.

LOL, thank you. Not really, there are quite a lot of people who do more mileage than I do. There's something to be said for a lazy lying down bike.

I do just under 20 miles round trip and wouldn't want to do a great deal more on a daily basis, maybe 25 at the most.
If I was doing the kind of mileage you're talking about then it would be 2 or 3 times a week only.

What is the ratio for lie down bikes to proper bikes? 1:2?
ie Every mile Mikey rides lying down is the same as us real cyclists doing 2 miles?

I agree it's not just mileage. Or just time for that matter. They are other factors too.

I used to do 15 miles each way from central to North West London, that took over the hour and really wasn't particularly pleasant. No showers at work made matters worse. Sometimes I'd work late and come the time I left, I didn't always fancy riding home. The tube station was across the road and I could be home in under the hour. So, yes, I left the bike at work a couple of times. I'd cycle maybe 2 or 3 times a week. Tube or motorcycle the other days.

So to distance and time, I'd definitely add 'alternatives'!

fitness, route, traffic and time constraints aside, there's also the mental aspect, how comfy are you in your own head? Also how long can you stay focused for?

My road route is roughly 13miles one way, if I go on the canal which I have for the past month it is almost 15miles.

My canal route is 100meters from my house via road and when in Manchester one mile from canal to workplace, MUCH more plesant.

I work flexitime and have young kids so the whole house is awake at six more often than not.

Until recently I was doing a 46-mile round trip (but only 3 days a week and only February to October).

It was largely rural and almost junction-free, which was great.

21 mph average was possible, but usually 19-point-something.

Since leaving that job I've put on 7 kilos...(

I did it every day for one week a few years back for some sort of Green Week initiative.... I was no fun at home that week.

But 3 days a week was lovely. It helped that we had showers and lockers at the office.

For me personally, I wouldn't want to do more than a 30 mile round trip, I think this is the absolute maximum that I would be capable of daily without eventually suffering severe fatigue.

As for yourself, It depends how you feel. If you are happy and are capable of doing it and are happy to pay the cost of increased time away from home, then go for it.

I wish Potsy. I think it might be somewhere between 5-20% easier on average, I've no accurate idea though. Harder up hills, better on the flats and downhills, and best of all into a stonking headwind.

20x2 on a "flat" route with "one hill" should be easy going. Best to start with a few days a week and just see how you go.

I've done 23x2mile but that was silly hilly and I couldn't be bothered after finishing at 5pm when I only do there a few times a month (and a <12month old to take care of).

My commute is 24 mile round trip door to door. But I was adding miles and doing a 35 mile round trip 5 days a week up until August last year. That went down to 35 miles 4 days a week. It's now currently down to 26 mile round trip 4 days a week. If anything it's the time constraints of work/family that my daily mileage has fallen.
