My longest rides ever were when I cycled home through the Alps from Salzburg (where I was studying) to my parents' place near Innsbruck a couple of times (~170k each way = 105.6 miles) ... on a mountain bike  (as that's the only bike I had at the time). No alpine passes were involved, I hasten to add ;).

Summer days in Austria tend to be quite hot (often 30C+ in the middle of the day), and I was carrying some stuff in panniers that I needed to take with me for the summer holidays (and I didn't think anything of it, the ignorance of youth ). I still remember vividly how my legs were wanting to do funny circular pedalling type motions as I walked up the stairs at my parents' place (knees lifting high at each step), and how good that cold fruit compote was that my mum had waiting for me . As far as I remember, I was fine the next day, if a bit more hungry than usual ...

But that's a while ago now  - nearly 20 years! This year I've managed a few ~ 100k day rides, with the longest ~115k (71 miles) I think .

Mine was 96 - tried for the 100 but just couldn't squeeze the last few out as my knee had given up the ghost.

I'm currently trying to get my weight down so will maybe have another go next year. ;)

Oddly, I've done exactly 110 miles on 4 or 5 occasions, but never any further. I've no real desire to either - that's the point at which "challenging but enjoyable" becomes "can I go home now mummy".

157 kms but that was with a full 4 pannier touring load and a tent.

Last year I did three 300km AUK rides.

I was only planning two. One for the R300 cloth patch and one to contribute toward a R1000 Series cloth patch.

The first was a Midlands Mesh but I didn't get acknowlegement of the Brevet card's arrival at the Area co-ordinator's. Must have gone astray in the post.

So I rode a duplicate and 'hand delivered' the completed Brevet card to the Area co-ordinator's letter box.

I'm taking it easy this year and totting up 100s for the Brevet2000 medal.

about 140 miles on a club event. the official distance was 130, but we deviated a bit here and there and the comp went awol a couple of times so i've had to base it on a clubmate's garmin data.

still, was i knackered at the finish…
