...Is what went through my head whilst driving home this evening along the A607.

Went round this gentle curve in the road at probably about 45/50mph in the dark to find myself very quickly bearing down on a ninja cycling almost in the gutter with no lights.

Cue heavy braking, very quick indication and as gentle and wide a sweep around them as I could manage. Luckily there was no traffic coming from the opposite direction, as although I'm sure I could have stopped/slowed enough, I don't know if the driver who was a little too close for comfort behind me would have.

If this guy had had either lights, or at the least, hi-vis/reflectives, I would have spotted him from much further away, and my heart wouldn't have been performing acrobatics for the following five minutes.

It's idiots like this that give the rest of us a bad name

I was passed the other night by someone on a fixie with no lights and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood over their head. Not a light or reflector to be seen and I would have seen a reflector given my lights are pretty good. Most annoying thing was the speed that they made off at. I literally couldn't see them within a few seconds and not because they weren't lit!! I blame my very heavy lights!!

There is a guy around here who does it every day. Not lights at all along a NSL road. I have mentioned when I overtake him he needs a cheap set of lights a couple of times; only to be met by obscenities from his mouth. He is going to get hit one day. Even his pink tyres wont save him...!

I like these schemes where the coppers give them the choice. Fixed penaly fine, or buy a set of lights for the same price and get the fine quashed.

Ignoring the whole light situation, that alone is pretty dangerous in my opinion. I've tried cycling with a hood on once before, and it's completely impossible to shoulder check as you end up looking in to the side of your hood!
