From the BBC "Allah akbar" (God is great), they chanted as they unleashed volleys into the air. Mohammed, a fighter in his 20s, wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap, said he had found the colonel hiding in a hole in the ground. He told the BBC that the former Libyan leader said to him simply: "Don't shoot".
Been watching the Beeb news... it seems that about 90% of their (extremely repetitive) live coverage is spent saying "we have no independent confirmation", "we can't confirm this" etc etc. Why not just say "we think he's dead.... we'll confirm when we know... look, here's lots of people celebrating".
Putting it in metaphorical inverted commas (ad nauseum) just makes for really dull coverage!!
