Nope, I'm the exact opposite. If I do forget to restart the Garmin and lose a few miles on the ride I get angry with myself!
You get angry, is that all?
In these circumstances true geeks would turn back and restart their journey.

Anyone else like me?

Me. I bought a computer but mainly ended up using it as a clock. When crossing Spain my riding partner wanted me to log the time & distances each day, it was a right palaver, I logged them into my phone. 3 days from the end of the trip my phone was stolen in Seville, I wasn't bothered about the lost data, or the phone, I didn't have to log anything again. :wahhey:

Cateye Strada is my one concession to techno-cycling. I have cycling friends who are obsessed with the geeky stats, and their fitness levels and such. Good luck to them, but for me that's not what it's all about. I just like to be out in the fresh air (preferably dry and warm fresh air!) and enjoying the local countryside with its associated sights, sounds and smells . If a reasonable fitness level and better health are a useful bi-product, then so be it.

My Garmin is great - I can plan a complicated route using quiet lanes and not have to faff about with a map when I'm en route. Each to their own.

I like to have the data! It doesn't mean I always look at it while on the move, but I am always collecting and archiving it.

I ride on feel but the stuff is on my handlebars and I don't bother looking at it until I'm finished.I do like having it as a record though.

When going somewhere I don't know, I carry a map. I did get my Forerunner watch to bleep at me when I reached a turn but I couldn't get it to tell me which way to go. Which reminded me of that Not the Nine O Clock news sketch where the clever light alerts the deaf bloke to a phone call but when he picks it up........well.........

I do like to know how far I've travelled but beyond that, I don't care. Average speed doesn't matter any more to me. Life's too short to waste it rushing around like an idiot.

I only have a £5 trip computer and really only use it to see how far I have gone. That gives me a little bit of satisfaction if I have pushed on a bit as I am still getting over my winter lack of activity.

Then there is a bell and a mirror which I suppose were gadgets in their day.

I want to know distance and how long it took. ASverage spped is workled out by an app (remains fairly constant, not worried about it). The app also records a map, which is nice to look at.
