There an absolute pain . . . . . . . Twice in the last week whilst cycling into Dolywern they run suicide missions on me

If you were in Dolywern, you'll have experienced the absolute pain of the awful road surface between there and Glyn Ceiriog.

. . . on the other side of the hill from you Patrick.

You were actually close to where 3 Cyclechatters live - should've given us a shout. Patrick probably lives closest, but there's a flippin terrifically steep climb in between - I did it once, probably the hardest climb I've ever done. Al-Fresco's also close to Dolywern.

Did you go out to Llanarmon DC ?

Church Hill in Glyn Ceirog? It's all you can do to keep the front wheel on the tarmac. Even the slowest pheasant will have plenty of time to get out of the way.

I usually cycle home via Chirk, but have had a couple of lung bursting climbs out of the valley from behind the Swan inn and over to Llan.
I work just down the road from the Golden pheasant, sometimes on a white cube or occasionally on an old black and blue carrera

Yeah ! When I tried to keep the front wheel down, the rear wheel was spinning - it is a truly character-building climb; it must be one of the hardest climbs anywhere, not only is it very steep, but it is long too. I've done the Devil's Staircase and Gospel Pass and they are not nearly as difficult as Church Hill.

I've run up (and down) that hill many times and cycled up it too - a tough climb . . . . . . . but not as tough as Church Hill.

Is that off the round about in the middle of Glyn?

If you are coming along the main road from Dolywern, turn almost 360 degrees right at the mini roundabout. In the centre of Glyn Ceiriog, there is a (Spa ?) shop. Keeping the shop to your left, cycle up the road towards the Royal Oak pub.

Cycle past the Royal Oak and follow the road up towards the church; when you get to the church, there is a lot of climbing still to do. If you do attempt this climb, you'll really feel that you've achieved something ^_^ - I doubt you'll have climbed anything significantly harder.

IF you do it, please let us know what you think about it.

I've driven it and that was hard enough, but I'll go see one coffee fueled morning

As a few on this forum know, I'm not the best at descending on a bike. On one occasion, I came down Church Hill on my bike . . . . . . . . . . to which was attached a 'tag-a-long', on which my youngest was sitting. It was the hairiest cycling moment I've ever experienced - I was clutching the brakes so strongly, that I'm surprised I didn't 'pop' one of the inner tubes, 'cos the rims got so hot.

I'll bet you've not been in the Golden Pheasant . . . . . . . 'cos I think that they don't open, between the end of November & the end of March.

The (new) owners are from Sweden (iirc) and they have some really unusually ideas regarding opening hours; on Mondays for example, they used to open at 3pm and close at 9pm.

Have you been in there, Patrick ?

I see the lights on every now and then, but never open, also seen lots of walkers try the door with no luck.
