Courgettes (and marrows) make a nice moist cake. I can't find the recipe I used last time but it included spices - cinnamon or maybe mixed spice. I remember it was popular.

Toms of various varieties, cucumbers, herbs, lettuce and garlic 🧄 all doing nicely. Carrots also doing well just out of shot.

Mrs D noshed my first cucumber yesterday and pronounced it the best she'd ever tasted. Very gratifying as its my first attempt cucumbers.

I'm on my second year with cucumbers. I concur with Mrs D, home grown are truly delicious.

Opinions sought after. Until two, perhaps three, years ago I grew very successful garlic. Bulbs a similar size to the quality sizes one finds in a supermarket. Recently the crop has been very disappointing. I harvested shallots, elephant garlic, and garlic today. All from the same bed, grown side by side. Planted on the same day. It is an overwintering variety - Carcassonne Wight.

I have a theory but would welcome input. I'm usually self-sufficient in garlic for 6 - 8 months.

I harvested my garlic a couple of days ago. Slightly disappointing size wise, but hopefully theyll be nice taste wise.

I have had a similar problem this year. We still have 5 bulbs in the garage from last year's crop, but this year has not been good.
At first I thought it was a lack of water as I started mine under cover, but I am wondering if there is an imbalance of nutrients. I planted some onions further along the same bed and they have repeatedly sent up thick stemmed seed heads despite being watered.
Last year I used this particular bed to empty water from my fishtanks when I did water changes. One of my books suggests nitrate levels may be too high.

On the subject of aliums... I planted some leeks earlier in the year on a spare patch. All much too close together according to standard advice. Not planned, I just bought some seedlings on a whim. They are doing incredibly well. Well enough that I should probably harvest a few as baby leeks. and give the others more space.

My tomatoes are very slow coming through this year.

Last two years I've been growing "Gold Nugget" yellow tomatoes. They are little ones that ripen quickly and I've had tons of them. Go well in salad, but also make a nice sauce for pasta and other tomatoey things.

I remember one year I got back from holiday and the courgettes had annexed half the garden and declared UDI.
