I'm just going to whinge about Garmin...

I could easily be 90 by the time I figure out how to get routes from basecamp into the gps60csx ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....

Whine over.

I have city usa navigator maps on dvd and base camp. I managed to get the usa maps onto my 8gb memory card and it looke dlike it only took up half of the memory. I have got the ACA gps transam gpx files downloaded from the ACA site and got them inot base camp and i see a pink line as expected showing each route file. Now getting each route file into the GPS is proving tiresome....It seems to not pick up the entire pink line in some cases and the end waypoint of the route in the gps is not the same oas the last waypoint on the route file shown in basecamp (??). I tried to load all 12 route files into the gPS but I get a warning saying waypoint memory exceeded so I cant get all of them in there.

Am i doing anything wrong here? I thought i could load up all 12 route files and follow th pink line across america....am i going to have to take my dvd with me and find a pc somewhere and re load the next set of routes on the tour?

Seems that there is only enough waypoint memory in the gpsmap 60 for the 1st of 12 gps maps of the transam ACA ride. So I think I will be having to find a computer after each section and install basecamp on it (how likely is that in a webcafe??????!) and down load each section as i ride deleting the previous one. Is there a way I can increqse waypoint memory? I have an 8gb card installed and I installed ALL of th ecity nav usa maps into th egps unit...I wont need all of them...I am wondering if I uninstall all those maps and just install the ones I need if that would increase waypoint memory? It takes hours though.........days even...

You need to reduce the number of waypoints on each route you have downloaded as your device will have a limit ( its installed on the internal memory).

If you can imagine that every twist and turn in the road on a downloaded route is a waypoint then you will see that there will be many thousands over say a 100 mile route. There are some programmes that can reduce these down or you can do it manually.

Not explained very well but in effect your new route / track or whatever will consist of straight lines roughly covering the route rather than an exact follow of the road.

My etrex legend can only take up to 750 points so I upload the gpx into bikehike.co.uk, go to options and you can reduce it down to the number of points that will work.

This is for trackpoints rather than waypoints but it sounds much like the problem you're having.

OK thankyou...hmmm..manually that could take me years, and i do mean years:eek:......the pink route line isnt actually following each turn in the road exactly, it is just about staying in the screen in places next to th eroad options i could take around it. I will try to cut down the waypoints in bikehike then.

I've uploaded the first gpx file into bikeroutetoaster and then imported it into the gpsmap60...instead of importing a route for some reason it imported a track....which went in fine..i see a green line hugging the road really close....the first file had 250 ish points....i'm working on the others.....i hit a snag though as BRT seems to automatically add the flight from london into each track which bumps up the points to around 4000.....I must have BRT set wrong somehow....strange it didnt do it on the first file i uplaoded......aint technology wonderful...i could have ridden through virginia in the time it has taken me to figure out all this....well almost.

Ok...fingers crossed i have what i want. I have all 12 ACA transam maps in the gpsmap60csx as back to back tracks 1 thru 12 Yorktown to Florence.

The last stage from Eugene to Florence has some weird things happening which i can only imagine are foulups by the guy who programmed them....but I'm leaving them in in case they arnt!

All of that has taken up 2% of my track log.

In theory then i should be able to simply ride along the green track line.....stage by stage.
